ARETÉ SCIENCE operates as a 501(c)(3) public charity focused on achieving optimal health care for individuals with Behavioral Brain Disorders. Our mission is simple but ambitious: “Eradicate stigma, promote awareness, and ensure access to high-quality mental health care for all."
We will achieve this through collaboration among leading scientists, clinicians, and entrepreneurs. Together, we are creating innovative strategies to close the treatment gap and elevate the quality of life for millions.

Dr. Jeffrey Lieberman – President & CEO
Acclaimed psychiatrist, researcher, and former President of the American Psychiatric Association, Jeffrey Lieberman has led groundbreaking advancements in schizophrenia research.
Dr. Lieberman is President of ARETÉ SCIENCE and the Constance and Stephen Lieber Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is also the author of SHRINKS, THE UNTOLD STORY OF PSYCHIATRY (Little Brown 2015) and MALADY OF THE MIND: Schizophrenia and the Path to Prevention (Scribners-Simon and Schuster 2023). ARETḖ – ancient Greek for the fulfillment of one’s purpose and potential – will serve as the organizational framework for fundamental changes in the way Behavioral Brain Disorders are perceived by the public, and clinical care is delivered to the American people - a veritable Manhattan Project to improve the lives of this neglected population.
